Frequently Asked Questions

How Do I join the Fire Company?

  • Stop by our Station 1 anytime you see us there or print the application packet on the application page and complete entirely.
  • Contact {insert recruitment email} so we can arrange a time for you to submit your application in person.

When do I become a member?

  • Once your application is recieved it will be brought before the membership and read off at the next regular monthly meeting, held on the 1st Friday of the month.
  • Next, our Investigation Committee will contact you to schedule an interview and explain the many functions of the Fire Company and some of the expectations you will encounter.
  • Next, your application will again be read off along with the report of the Investigation Committee and will be voted on by the members at the next regular Fire Company meeting. 
  • Upon receving a positive vote, you will be sworn in and introduced to the members at that meeting.
  • Immediately following the meeting you will recieve paperwork for a physical at no cost to you, as well as fill out miscellaneous paperwork for your file.
  • You will then be required to meet with the Sheridan Park District #4 Fire Commissioners at their montly meeting held on the 3rd Tuesday of the month who will issue a pager and key fob. 

When are meetings and drills held?

  • Regular Fire Company meetings are held the 1st Friday of every month at 7:00PM, with the exeption of the December meeting held at 7:45PM
  • Morning drills are held 9:00AM on Mondays throughout the year and Night drills are held at 7:00PM Friday nights from Labor Day through the beginning of Lent, Monday nights through the duration of Lent, Friday nights from the end of Lent throught Memorial Day, and Monday nights Memorial Day throuh Labor Day.
  • Fire District Ccommissioners meet on the 3rd Tuesday of every month at 7:00PM
  • Fire Company Board of Directors meet on the 3rd Wednesday of every month at 6:00PM 

What about training?

  • You will be trained by the Fire Company's Chiefs and Officers.
  • There are also many training classes offered by NY State and Erie County.
  • It is in your best interest and extremely important that you attend as many drills as possible.

Physicals

  • You will be required to have a physical yearly.
  • Your physical is at no cost to you paid for by the Sheridan Park Fire District #4.

Are there any benefits for members?

  • Annual Installation Dinner for member and their guest.
  • Receive Fire Company jackets, shirts, and hats.
  • Annual Family Picnic
  • March in parades
  • Kids annual Christmas party
  • Kids annual Easter party
  • There is often any other events that the Fire Company participates and that the members choose to do.

Fundraisers

  • The Fire Company has several fundraisers during the year. These funds are used to pay for the many benefits listed above and they include:
