Sheridan Park Fire responded last evening to ATO Chem on Military Road after a report of smoke coming from the building.

Upon arrival, crews began investigating the source of the smoke and worked to determine whether anyone remained inside the facility. Due to the nature of the location, firefighters entered areas that had the potential to contain hazardous conditions while taking precautions to protect themselves, the public, and the surrounding community.

Crews checked the building, assessed the situation, and ensured there was no immediate risk to nearby residents or businesses. The incident was handled without further escalation, and responding personnel remained on scene until the area was determined to be safe.

Incidents like this serve as an important reminder for families to talk with children and teens about the dangers of playing with fire, smoke devices, or anything that could create an emergency response. What may seem harmless at first can quickly place firefighters, bystanders, and the individuals involved at risk.

Every response brings unknown conditions for emergency personnel. Firefighters must be prepared to enter potentially dangerous environments to search for occupants, identify hazards, and protect the community.

Sheridan Park Fire thanks all responding personnel for their quick and professional actions, and we appreciate the continued support of our community in helping keep everyone safe. Please take time to discuss fire safety with your family and report unsafe activity before it leads to an emergency.
